Although its current history begins after Prohibition, Sutter Home’s wine productiono dates back to 1874 when John Thomann established a winery, distillery, and Victorian house at the St. Helena estate. The property was sold to the Leunbergers who renamed the winery Sutter Home, yet production stopped due to Prohibition in the 1920s and the site was left abandoned.
