Dusty notes with crushed gravel and dried tea leaves are a prelude to aromas of fresh button mushrooms and hints of fennel. Savory mushrooms and olives, followed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Structured and full-bodied. Producer Information Tenimenti Angelini (also anglicised as Angelini Wines & Estates) is a wine producer with a range of holdings across central and northern Italy, producing wines from estates in Chianti, Montalcino, Le Marche and the Veneto. The company’s origins are in the Marche region, where pharmaceutical industrialist (and mayor of Ancona) Francesco Angelini took over the running of regional wine producer Fazi Battaglia, established in 1949, and now perhaps best-known for its curved bottles of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico. Its genesis as a larger wine group occurred in Tuscany, when it acquired the Val di Suga (Montalcino), Tenuta Trerose (Montepulciano) and Tenuta San Leonino (Castellina in Chianti) estates in 1994. In 2010, the group purchased the Friuli Isonzo-based producer Tenuta Puiatti and one year later took a controlling stake in the major Veneto (Valpolicella) producer, Bertani. Angelini also runs a sixth property, Tenute San Sisto a small brand producing a few high-end labels in the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi region. Across the six wineries, the group holds 460 hectares (1100 acres) of vineyard and produces around 1.5 million bottles of wine annually. Angelini is part of the joint-stock company Angelini Holding SpA, headquartered in Rome, with interests in pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, industrial technology and perfumery/skincare.
