West Cork Glengarrif Peat Charred Cask Single Malt

Introduction

This single malt Irish whiskeys are initially matured in Sherry casks before being treated to a finishing period in casks that have been charred using fuel sources from the Glengarriff Forest in West Cork. The distillers even have their own bespoke device, built with the help of a local blacksmith, to do the charring.

The peat charred casks that this expression was finished in has imparted an earthy smokiness rarely seen in Irish whiskey – fascinating stuff!
